Ryan D’Auria: an eighteen-year-old musician from Swansea has always had a passion for music and performing. Ryan has been surrounded by incredibly famous music from a very young age and now takes inspiration from legends such as Prince, Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix just to name a few! Having been playing for around five years and writing for the last two, Ryan already has two singles released and a third on the way!

Ryan’s music is heavily influenced by genres such as funk and soul, but there are “elements of blues, pop and sometimes jazz scattered throughout.” With such an amazing combination of genres I think we can expect some amazing things from Ryan, especially combined with the reasoning behind his love of producing music. “For me, music has always been the biggest healer in my life. No matter what I’ve been through, music has always been there for me. Hopefully in sharing my experiences and feelings through my music, somebody will hear it and relate to it.” However, “the dream is to one day perform my music in theatres and arenas for crowds of people that my music has resonated with.”

Ryan told me that his writing process differs based on the song, “for example, when I wrote Falling I had this chord progression, and I knew I had a story to tell so I then crafted the lyrics and melody around those chords and then built upon that.” Telling a story through the music is only one of the many reasons why the previous two singles Ryan has released, Falling and New Groove, have been so well received. “With New Groove  however, the entire hook and instrumental popped into my head all at the same time so I dissected it and recorded each part in turn.”

While opinions of what makes a song great differ depending on who you ask, but a memorable melody is a common thread amongst those opinions. Ryan told me that “everybody loves a good hook. I’m a sucker for beautiful harmonies and ethereal sounding chords. If we’re gonna get funky though, I need you to slap me in the face with it” which I think is something we can all relate to!

Of the two tracks already out there and waiting to be listened to it’s almost impossible to pick a favourite, even for Ryan who described it as “like choosing between two children!” “Falling is definitely a very personal song so it hits me deep every time I listen to or play it” whereas “New Groove is just me all over, I’m funky to the core so a groove like that is something I’ll always gravitate to. If I had to choose though, I think I’d have to say Falling.”

If you haven't already, check out Falling and New Groove on all major streaming platforms, and keep an eye out for new material! Give Ryan a follow on social media too to make sure you don't miss out on any new announcements!

“I can’t wait to be able to share more music with everybody and finally hit the stage when this lockdown is over. I also want to say thanks for all of the support so far, we’ve barely just begun so keep your eyes and ears open!”
