Disobey | Guerilla State

Belfast based Guerilla State are a rising Irish rock group, whose music takes on current issues, both political and social. The band have featured three times in Flare Magazine already and are made up of two members from Ireland and Australia. Guerilla State’s music tackles current issues head on, illuminating them in an unbiased and free way. They offer “a global perspective on governmental affairs and failings in an age of misinformation” through a media we can all relate to.

The band’s debut single was released back in January, and they have been going strong ever since, releasing an EP and another new single recently. Guerilla State are back with another brand-new single today and it’s safe to say they’ve maintained their high standard when it comes to their music! Disobey was released today and is definitely worth checking out!

Disobey features a more electronic sound than we have previously heard from the band and has a beat that I can see fitting well alongside any eerie film well with it’s almost post-apocalyptic vibes! The song itself is eerie in the best way possible, every single element, from the lyrics to the melody to the tone of the single all contribute towards this feeling and it’s proving to be a highly effective way of making a track memorable!

Starting off with low vocals and backing, it's a surprise to the listener when all of a sudden the volume increases and the energy is suddenly amped up. This only makes it more catchy and more memorable, giving it that recognisable Guerilla State sound whilst showing off the vocal range and writing talent of the band members at the same time. Despite the changes in pace and volume, the track has an energy to it that never wavers, it's consistently there and that comes across perfectly in each part of the song.

Disobey is a credit to the band and sits well alongside their previous material well, its darker tones and lyrics making it all the more intriguing! The eerie vibes the single gives off, the melody, the lyrics, and the tone work together perfectly and create something truly special that I definitely recommend checking out if you’re a fan of rock and even metal music!
